Josh Wilson Presents Noel Christmas Concert

Earlier this week Christian singer Josh Wilson came to Tulsa to play a Christmas concert at Southern Hills Baptist Church. We went with the friends the Sheffields. JJ Sheffield is a member of the Matt Roberson Band and has played with Josh Wilson before. This summer I was invited to the YEC conference in Norman where the Matt Roberson Band played for Josh. Josh’s Christmas concert was unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. He played 20 different instruments and recorded each instrument creating “loops.” in the process. It was a remarkable concert as Josh is not only a very talented singer, but a tremendous musician. The church was packed and Josh played for a solid two and half hours. It was my first time using the Canon 7D. I sold off my Canon 5d Mark II and Canon 1D Mark III in preparation for the release of the Canon 1Dx in March. It’s been a busy time this holiday season and we’re looking forward to some much overdue time with family. Happy 5th Anniversary!

Yesterday Ali and I celebrated our 5th Anniversary as husband and wife. We were married on a beautiful December day in Guthrie, OK in 2006. The past five years have been simply amazing through the fun times and the hard times. We have grown closer every single year and this past year was no exception. We faced several challenges with so many transitions in our lives but the Lord was faithful and brought us through them all. Yesterday we started out the day watching this year’s anniversary video I made. I’ve made one every year since we’ve been married and it’s one of my most favorite things to do every year. This year we broke out all of the stops and spoofed a scene from “LOST” for our opening. We watched all 120 episodes of LOST this summer thanks to Netflix and we loved it so much we wanted to include it in the video. For dinner, Ali and I stopped by the all new Oklahoma Joe’s in Broken Arrow, OK for their grand opening. I will blog about that later this weekend. We split a Jumbo Chicken Z-Man with fries which was just enough to tie us over for our second dinner at Mahogany Prime Steakhouse. I’m convinced they have the best Filet Mignon in Oklahoma. I have yet to find a better filet in my travels. I gave Ali a diamond tennis bracelet this year since I haven’t bought her anything jewelry-wise since we got married. With this being our fifth anniversary she definitely deceived something sparkly for putting up with me for this many years! Overall, we had a fantastic anniversary and I can’t wait for the next one with all the challenges we will meet before then. People ask us how we’re so happy with one another and how we seem to fall more and more in love each year instead of drifting away like most couples. The answer is always simple. I married the one God made for me. The reason we know this is that when we met we were both seeking to know God more and when we met, it was never so clear that we were the ones for each other. I fell in love with Ali the first time we sat down and had a conversation. A few years earlier I may not have given Ali a second look as I was looking for a “different” kind of woman. When I started seeking after a godly woman instead of a worldly one, I was given the gift of Ali and I knew in my heart very early on that I was going to marry her. So when you marry the right person, it’s pretty easy to grown more and more in love with them every day! Thanks again for all of the congratulations you have sent our way, we are truly blessed to have such good friends! Weekend in Colorado

Two weeks ago my wife and I took a short business/vacation weekend to Colorado. Dr. Alan Yoder, my best friend from chiropractic college invited us up to stay with him in Golden, CO while we attended to a few things. First thing is first, on Friday morning we visited Xtreme Footwerks in Idaho Springs, CO where we met with our pedorthist Shawn Eno. He spent a few hours with us doing an orthotic exam on me and showing us how everything is made in his shop. It was an invaluable learning experience and I’ve written a separate blog about it HERE. We next drove to Thornton, CO where Alan works to meet up with Dr. Greg Doerr (one of the founders of FAKTR.) He was in Thornton visiting his in-laws which worked out perfect as Alan’s office is also in Thornton. We drove over to Colorado Spine and Joint where I got to see another one of my classmates and Alan’s partner, Dr. Alex Aten. We spent an hour or two shooting some “macros” for some previous FAKTR videos I had shot back in June in Kansas City. After that, we all went to Greg’s in-laws house and had an unforgettable evening. Anytime we get with Greg and his wife Adinda, the conversations are nothing less than hilarious. I have not laughed that hard in a very long long time. Alan and Ali actually made the comment that their faces hurt when we left that night from laughing so hard! Saturday was a “free day” where we got to hang out around Golden. Ali and I went for a 5 mile hike while Alan was working on runners at a local 5k. We went to the top of “table rock” in Golden, CO, which is really kind of in Alan’s backyard. We did not have to drive at all to get there! We spent Saturday evening visiting downtown Golden and eating at the exceptional “Woody’s Wood Fire Pizza” restaurant. On Sunday, we got up early and drove 90 minutes to Colorado Springs to visit the Garden of the Gods. I wanted to see it at sunrise, but my fatigued brain miscalculated the new daylight savings time sunrise time and we showed up an hour too late. We still got some very nice photos of the park and I was blown away by the majesty of that place. I had never seen the Garden of the Gods and I didn’t have to contemplate for one second why they called it that. While we were in Colorado Springs, we jumped over to Anabolic Labs to say hi to Dr. Tom Hyde (the other FAKTR founder) who was actually teaching a FAKTR seminar in the conference room. Ali and I caught a late flight home on Sunday and made it back just in time to experience our first Oklahoma earthquake. It was an incredible weekend and I cannot wait to get back there. Alan said we needed to visit in the summer so we could do some serious hiking. Since Ali and I were crazy enough to knock out Longs Peak only 24 hours after being at altitude back in 2007, I’d say we’re up for about anything! This week may be the busiest week of my life so there won’t be a lot of work on this site, but I have three to four new blogs that will be dropping by the end of the month. Until then…. -Barnezy-

I have had several people ask me where all of the good videos went on my site. The truth is that when I rebuilt barnezy.com in 2009 it was a major remodel. So much had changed in the four years since I started the site that I wanted to have a fresh start. Pretty much everything I put on the website initially was in High Definition. I wanted to keep up with the times and did not want any of the old school videos on the site yet. I also wanted only photos which I would consider “excellent” to be displayed. I know that part of the charm of the old website was all of the awesome content. Most of that content I did not have ownernship rights to. My website came along before YouTube so barnezy.com was one of only a handful of websites where you could watch funny web videos. During 2005-2006, I was receiving millions of hits per year and my website was valued at over $10,000. All of this was great, but now that I’m married and have a career I decided that it was best for me to eliminate some of the less-wholesome videos and concentrate on content that was my own. Now that YouTube is such a phenom, I don’t imagine many people really notice that I don’t have those funny web videos on my site. I did however post a bunch of my old videos and will continue to add them as I find them on my old hard drives. This is a great start though and should bring you hours of entertainment! Labor Day weekend in Ponca, Arkansas

This past weekend Ali and I travelled to Ponca, Arkansas to spend some time with the in-laws. We camped out at Steel Creek campgrounds which is an absolutely beautiful campsite adjacent to the Buffalo River and some overlooking bluffs. We spent Sunday afternoon at the Buffalo River Canopy Tours where we got to ride 7 very cool zip lines. The whole process took just a few hours and the staff was phenomenal. I got to try out my new Go Pro HD camera by flying through the trees with it attached to my helmet. I was the only person who got stuck on the course which meant a not-so-comfortable break hanging on a line 20 feet in the air with the harness digging into my legs. Our guide “Bear” pulled be back to the platform and we continued to zip away! We only spent Sunday night in Arkansas, but the weather was absolutely perfect for camping. We camped in the back of the Chevy Avalanche with the tent in onboard. The mattress leaked air of course which meant Ali and I had to get up at 2 am to refill it. At 2 am the stars were absolutely incredible! I had to get up early around 5:30 to get a photo of them! We got up early to trek to a very famous spot in Ponca known as the Hawksbill Crag. It’s a very cool rock formation that extends out from a cliff. Ali told us that we would see it looking west with the sun, but instead we actually had to look straight east into it which was very difficult at 7am. We did find one spot in the shade where we could take some pics, but nothing could have compared to a shot mid to late day. I may have to go back in the fall to capture this beautiful scene. We took off right after some breakfast with the Griffins and headed back to Tulsa where we were in awe of the 70 degree temperatures. It was 50 degrees this morning with highs in the low 80′s all week. It’s a bout time!!! Football weather has arrived. My 10 year reunion is this weekend so I’ll probably post some old-school shots later this week to commemorate the occasion. Time truly has flown by these last 10 years! Ali is getting settled into her new job at Cascia Hall and is finding that the kids need some help with their social skills. And by social skills, I mean not being little dirt bags. I’m sure she’ll get them straightened out. I’m attaching photos of her new school I took last week while Asher was in town. We also discovered that they’re putting in an Oklahoma Joe’s in Broken Arrow less than a half mile from our house. This is my favorite restaurant in the entire world so this is going to be an amazing fall! I have six races to shoot this fall and a host of other ventures so it will be a busy time for blogging! -Barnezy-

4th of July Birthday Extravaganza!

This past Monday I celebrated my 29th birthday. Being a 4th of July baby definitely has its perks. I have had the joy of seeing fireworks on every birthday I’ve ever had. This year we started out with the Fleet Feet Firecracker 5K race in the Blue Dome district of downtown Tulsa. My wife ran the 5K and we saw quite a few old friends running as well. It was a great event and I look forward to shooting next years event as well. We then headed to Lafortune Park to play a quick round of Par 3 golf. It was Ali’s first round of golf since having shoulder surgery in November. She played great and did so with minimal pain. I’m hoping she’s finally bouncing back. We then grilled burgers and brats on the Hasty Bake at home and had several friends over for lunch. Ali’s parents hung out for a little while which sweetened the deal. It was 100 degrees outside so we decided to have indoor games on the Playstation Move instead of outdoor games. There was some pretty intense competition going on which was a blast! We then ordered some Mazzios pizza for dinner and headed off to our secret spot on the Arkansas River for some fireworks! While getting ready for fireworks we saw a fire dancer on a sandbar doing some fancy fire throwing. The fireworks were great except for the grand finale which did not go off. This left us in the middle of Lee Greenwood’s “Proud to be an American.” Overall it was an incredible birthday. I received nearly 100 facebook birthday wishes which was very humbling. My wife put in a lot of time to setup this “Barnezy Extravaganza” and it was one that I will not soon forget. I hope you all enjoyed your 4th of July holiday and hope that there are many more to come for us all. -Barnezy-

Kauai Vacation VIdeo

I spent a few hours this weekend throwing together a video from our Kauai vacation. I experimented with the newest version of Apple’s iMovie since it came with my new Macbook Pro. Overall, it’s a pretty legit video editing software that’s pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it. I typically stick with iMovie HD ’06 or Final Cut Studio, but this is a nice program for simple fun videos like this vacation video. The photos of Kauai we took tell the story pretty well, but there are just some things video does a better job showing. If you have a little time, sit back and enjoy one of the most beautiful places on earth! On another note, I spent this past weekend in Cincinnati for an Active Release Techniques seminar. I took a bunch of photos of downtown as well as the Keeneland horseraces in Kentucky. I’ll post those later today. It’s supposed to be the most beautiful day of the year in Kansas City today, so I’ll probably be outside most of the day. On a side note, we’re also trying to buy a house in Tulsa so we’ll keep you up to date on that as well. Hope everyone is having a great spring! -Barnezy-

My first Car Commercial – “We are Jim Glover Chevrolet”

This past month I was given an extraordinary opportunity to try something new. The task was a completely new one to me – Create a visually stunning car commercial. There was only one problem…. I have never seen a visually stunning local car commercial. All of the eye candy commercials are created by the manufacturers. I have grown up around the car business and have seen every possible type of advertisement. From boring to crazy and everywhere in between, car commercials in Tulsa are something of a strange art form. Jim Glover Chevrolet in Tulsa is known for the delightful Kristen Glover and the phrase “Dad will do it!” It was a great idea that was beat into submission early on. If Jim Glover Chevrolet advertised like the average dealership the idea would probably still be fresh. However, Jim Glover Chevrolet advertises more than about any company in the whole state so many tired of this phrase rather quickly. These days, the term is used sparingly and the commercials have continued to evolve with new material. However, since Jared (Kristen’s brother) joined the staff at Jim Glover Chevrolet he has been throwing ideas around like crazy. Jared was my best man and I value his friendship more than any other besides my wife’s. When he came to me with an idea for a car commercial, I thought this would be a fun little project. He had the vision for a commercial that would display the team aspect of our dealership and showcase some of the employees that have been with us for a long time. The backbone of Jim Glover Chevrolet is the employees that work behind the scenes. This was the idea that Jared wanted to communicate. With this idea, we weren’t trying to sell cars. Jared’s plan was to show the difference in a locally owned Chevrolet store. It is very much a family affair at Jim Glover Chevrolet as no less then five Glovers work at the dealership. The commercial was shot over a few afternoons as my schedule allowed. The video was shot completely on a 5D Mark II DSLR camera. The camera was mounted to a Redrock Micro Cinema Bundle for stability and focus control. The dolly shots were done on a pocket dolly and the pan shots were from a manfrotto video tripod. Lowell lights made for dramatic lighting and a golf cart made for an excellent drive by vehicle. The audio was handled with wireless lavalieres mounted to a Tascam audio recorder. The one time-lapse shot was done in a new Chevy Cruze with a Canon 5D Mark II mounted in the back seat. The video was edited on Final Cut pro with minimal retouching to keep the natural look of the shoot. The commercial will be airing soon and should run for several months off and on. Also, we’re planning on shooting a similar commercial for the new Lawton store in the next few months. If Jared and I actually have time to plan out something, this new commercial could be even better. I hope you enjoy the fruits of our labor. Dave Ramsey LIVE in Oklahoma City

Two weekends ago my wife and I were visiting Oklahoma for a baby shower of one of Ali’s bridesmaids. I thought this was a great opportunity to get some financial counseling from the master himself. Instead of paying the $88 standard price for two tickets to Dave’s seminar, I opted for the $17 deal I found on eBay. It was a great seminar as you might expect. Dave is famous for being able to market “common sense.” He basically shares the same advice your great grandmother would have, he just beats it into your head a little harder. The seminar was five hours of action packed financial pearls. The seminar was very interactive and I was shocked to see how there were literally hundreds of people who had payed off over $100,000 in debt since starting Dave’s Financial Peace University course. There were even a few people who had payed off a million dollars. If you’re thinking about going to a Dave conference, please do! I’ve learned so much from Financial Peace University just by listening to the cd-roms and can’t wait to crack into the workbooks. With the amount of student loans I have from Chiropractic college, FPU will be instrumental in helping us get out of debt FAST! It has been a crazy last month with many transitions in our lives. I have started my preceptorship with Peterson Chiropractic and will be an officially licensed Chiropractor on April 22nd. It’s an exciting time filled with tons of preparations and projects. I’ve been shooting a commercial for Jim Glover Chevrolet in Tulsa which should be done this weekend. It will look different than anything anyone else is doing in Tulsa, so I’m pretty excited. I have multiple seminars this spring including a Pro Football Chiro seminar I went to this past week. Check back for some photos from the beautiful city of Indianapolis. New York, New York

This past weekend my wife and travelled to Newark to shoot some videos for FAKTR. FAKTR stands for “Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehab.” It’s a concept of treating musculoskeletal pain that implements techniques like Graston Technique and Active Release Techniques and makes them more functional. Active Release Technique has been my “bread and butter” technique for the last four years, but after learning the concepts of FAKTR and being amazed at its results, I no longer look to Active Release as my go to technique. I never thought I would say this as ART is what what made me want to be a chiropractor, but after resolving conditions with FAKTR that ART did not, I’m confident I’ll be using FAKTR as my “go to” for a long time! This brings us to why we went to Newark for the weekend. I offered to re-film the FAKTR training videos after taking one of their seminars. They took me up on my offer and flew us out to Newark for the weekend. My wife and I stayed with Dr. Greg Doerr, one of the founders of FAKTR. We had a great time shooting videos on Friday followed by a great italian meal with the video crew. On Saturday, my wife and I ventured into New York City with our little Hyundai Genesis rental car. I showed the NY cabbies how we do things in KC and received quite a few horns of applause. We only had a few hours in the city but visited Central Park, The Apple Store, Times Square, and a few other landmarks. We spent the night with one of my oldest friends Joey Guzman and his wife in Poughkeepsie, NY. The only bummer of the trip was that our only day we had for leisure was blanketed with a thick fog and constant drizzle. I hope we get to go back within the next year so I can actually take some good photographs this time. Overall, my first trip to NYC was great and it blew away a few of my preconceived ideas. I’ll try to post a brief video clip from the footage I shot which demonstrates the use of my Canon 5D Mark II, Redrock Rig and Lowel Lighting kit. Looks like the snow is finally melting around here, can’t wait to get out and do something! -Barnezy-
