He devised a system called the “Hang Mate” which allows you to quickly and easily attach materials to a classroom, building ceiling etc… It was designed to increase the safety of decorating a classroom’s ceiling. Teachers often fall off of desks while trying to attach bulletin boards, decorations, etc to their classroom ceilings. This device makes it faster, and safer than ever to do so! Very intriguing product with a very nice family which is producing it. You can learn more about this great product at their website www.hang-mate.com. This was my first video shot using a portable Lowel lighting kit. I’m using two Tota lights to add some ambient, one softbox riffa for a key light, an omni for a fill, and a pro-light to knock some of the shadows off the chalkboard behind. This was shot entirely on a Canon 5D Mark II with the 24-70mm 2.8 L and Canon 100mm Macro 2.8 Lenses. Post production was with final cut pro and after effects.

Since I got my wife an iPad back on launch date, we have fallen in love with the interface and ease of use of this little device. I sold off her old netbook, and we scrapped the parts from our old PC for a 24 inch iMac to make our home a Mac home. Things sure have been a lot more stress-free these days! The biggest problem with these apple portable devices has been their lack of support for flash. This is something that Steve Jobs has written strongly about as he feels flash is an old format that is not efficient for these battery powered devices. These past few weeks I’ve updated all of the videos on barnezy.com to be compatible on your PC, MAC, iPad, iPhone etc… It has been a slow process to say the least, but one that will keep barnezy.com up to date for several years. The flash-based content such as the rollover menus and the flash slideshows will now revert to java-script for these devices so that you can navigate anywhere you would like. I hope that everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day weekend and hope that all of you students have a safe and happy summer.

So I shot my first wedding video assignment with a 3 camera setup this past month. I use a Sony HVR-Z5U for my primary camera. As a photographer I own a Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon 7D. Both of these cameras can film in 1080P HD video. However, as of now, the 5D can only film at 30 frames per second, whereas the 7D films at 24 frames per second. 24 frames per second is the standard that nearly every movie is filmed at and therefore creates more of a desirable look. I shot the video with these 3 cameras and then had to convert the footage from the 5D to match the 7D. It’s an incredibly lengthy process taking roughly an hour for each 15 seconds of video. The beauty and advantage of using a Digital SLR to capture video is that you can achieve the same cinematic look that $50,000 cameras can achieve. This is possible primarily because I’m using the same lenses I shoot photos with. In other words, the video looks like the photos. You can create incredibly shallow depth of fields that cause the subject to jump right out of the scene. 99% of these shots were shot handheld and the rest were on a monopod. I’ve ordered a shoulder rig to smooth out the hand-held shots as they’re not where they need to be right now as far as smoothness goes. I’ve compiled a 9 minute video with clips throughout the wedding day to try and tell a story of how the day unfolded. With the new video rig and some experience, I hope to one day shoot incredible wedding videos that people can cherish forever…. well at least for a their time here on earth I hope you enjoy! -Barnezy-
