Portrait Weekend

Last weekend we spent some time at a friend’s ranch in Claremore, OK.  The goal of the weekend was to shoot some engagement photos of some of our friends.  What it turned into was engagement photos for our friends, plus another couple, plus a pregnant couple, plus family portraits.  It was definitely a lot of shooting.  I have stepped away from the camera for a while, so this was nice for a change.  I had decided not to really shoot engagement photos or wedding photos this year with a few rare exceptions.  I guess if I get asked enough, I tend to cave.  I don’t like the awkwardness of meeting a couple at a designated area and then trying to create moments.  That has always seemed a bit awkward to me.  This was a lot nicer since we spent the prior evening together hanging out.  We were there for more than just some photos and this made it a lot less awkward.  I brought out the big X3200 lights to overpower the sun as you can see in some of the photos.  I shot pretty much everything on a Canon 7D with a 16-35mm 2.8 II.  I had to shoot everything at f8 due to the brightness of the sun and not having the high speed sync feature on my pocketwizards.  Overall, they came out pretty well especially for being as rusty as I am.   On another note, the canon 5D Mark III was announced.  I’m still trying to deicide if I want that rig or the new Canon 1D X.  As of now, I’m still holding out for the 1Dx.  That camera is going to be a monster!  Looking forward to shooting races this fall with it for sure!  I have some other cool things to blog about so I’ll get to that hopefully later this week!  Spring is knocking at the door, get out and have some fun!  -Barnezy-
