The Greatest Television Ever Made – The “KURO”

This isn’t something I normally blog about, but with me being a Photographer/Videographer who just happens to have 20/10 vision, I am a very discerning television reviewer. The rule of technology and TV’s in general is that each year the newest models released are the best TV’s available, this has always been true except…

Haruoki - YUP!!! Agree 100%… best TV ever!

Black is a beautiful “colour”!

CliffK - I have a Pioneer Kuro Elite. The 60 inch model. I like it very much, and must admit I take perverse pleasure in telling people that it is still the best televisioin out there and it is three years old!

Good news – you can buy a new 60 inch for about $6,000 from an Amazon vendor. Still way pricier than other TVs on the market, but such a sweet picture.

Anonymous - It is an amazing TV my brother has one along with a High end sound system!

The Grand Architect of this Website - according to CNET and about everyone else…. no TV’s beat it

Calin - I have the 60″ plasma elite .. I must admit I paid almost 7K for it but nothing beats this TV in terms of image quality even now after almost 4 years. I am not a fanboy … I just bought yesterday a 70″ Sharp LCD, nice but when comes to image quality the Pioneer wins hands down. Mo matter how you look at it the image on the Pioneer has a natural feel to it while the other TV’s the image just looks down right artificial. While some will say it is all because of incorrect calibration etc. it is just plain wrong … I had the Sharp calibrated by a professional guy and the Pioneer was never calibrated and the image is still better on the Pioneer.

Anony - Gizmodo says the LaserVue beats the Kuro as does the LaserVue website.
The Elite LCD Tv comes close.2 close.

The Grand Architect of this Website - That’s the standard Kuro not the “elite” kuro. And that makes all of the difference

December 24, 2011 - 4:18 pm

Anony - I toug the elites were just cherry picked Kuros with greater software customisation !
Love Anonymus

Anony - Merry Christmas last Christmas well news years day I got a new Samsung 46 inch C6540

December 25, 2011 - 3:14 pm

Kuro Lover - I have the Pioneer Elite Kuro Pro-141FD 60″ monitor. Used to be a video engineer who worked on image quality for MRI and other body scanners along with early color graphic systems in the 70′s and early 80′s and developed a very sensitive eye to image quality.

This display is by far the most realistic of any product on the market today – and the manufacture date is 2008. The flesh tones are so realistic that no other TV can compare yet. When walking into Home Theater stores today I am amazed at what is considered “best” today is so far from the quality of the Pro Kuro Elites. Blu-Ray Oppo player and amazing electronics in Kuro combine for best up conversion and is as good as it gets at the end of 2012. Looking at what is on the market today it will be at least another 3 – 5 years before any manufacturer touches this product.

What is so great is a company really set out to design and manufacture with exacting standards the very best and this level of image quality (not to mention manufacture quality) has lasted this long with Moore’s law type changes in the electronics world. Unfortunately, there is not a large enough market for consumers to pay for this quality and good enough has become the mantra of so many companies who target the masses.

Anony - This Christmas I got the 70 inch Elite LCD after selling my Elite .
I was thinking oh geting the LaserVue but instead decided to get this.
The kuro had a better picture but the Elite LCD makes a comparable picture for the fraction of energy.

January 1, 2012 - 6:20 pm

ju thom - i have a 60 inch kuro and it is awsome

January 4, 2012 - 10:39 am

Anony - Ju thom which kuro do you have

February 7, 2012 - 1:44 pm

John Ahmed Smith - The BrightSide DR37-P is better

February 10, 2012 - 1:11 am

Richard - question out of all the Pioneer Elite Kuro’s which model was the best? is it the The Pioneer Elite PRO-111FD or another one? also do you think any Panasonic 2012 Plasma will be the Kuro Killer?

February 13, 2012 - 8:02 am

The Grand Architect of this Website - the 111fd is the best of the bunch. The 151 was not tested by CNET

February 13, 2012 - 8:02 am

The Grand Architect of this Website - Debatable, but a $45,000 37 inch TV is not a consumer Television and not in the same class as the Kuro. But highly impressive, especially for 2005.

February 14, 2012 - 9:00 am

John Ahmed Smith - But the BrightSide was still better?

February 14, 2012 - 1:44 pm

John Ahmed Smith - And what about other HDR monitors

February 14, 2012 - 1:44 pm

John Ahmed Smith - And what about other HDR monitors such as the Dolby Vision.

March 3, 2012 - 11:58 pm

Richard - another question i hear lots of talk about the Panasonic TH-65VX300U being the Kuro killer not to mention the new VT50. lots of tv’s today beat the Kuro in terms of image processing and motion due to the new tech obviously but the Kuro still has better blacks, contrast and color. thoughts?

March 4, 2012 - 3:41 am

John Ahmed Smith - I agree Rochard only HDR display thrash the late kuro!
May it rest in peace!
