I was one of those lucky people who was actually able to pre-order an iphone on June 15th despite all of the hiccups AT&T and Apple were having. The FedEx guy delivered the phone somewhere between 10:00 – 12:00 pm. It’s hard to know since FedEx’s tracking servers crashed during the morning. FedEx claims it wasn’t from the hundreds of thousands of extra hits they were getting but rather that they were simply updating their servers that morning. The itunes setup was a breeze and my new phone was up and running in less than 5 minutes. The first obvious thing you notice is how small this thing is in your hand. It really is razor thin and I found myself putting a death grip on it to keep it from slipping out of my hand. I ordered one of the iPhone bumpers but it won’t be shipped to me till next week. The second thing you notice is the screen! WOW!!! I was blown away by the resolution, contrast, and color. Coming from a guy who has better than 20/10 vision and has sat in front of a Pioneer Elite Kuro television for the past two years this is a heck of a compliment. I played around with the video just a little bit and it’s remarkable! iMovie wasn’t available till this morning so I didn’t get to mess with it yesterday. I spent the majority of my evening trying to unbrick my iPhone 3G. For some odd reason it decided to lock up whilst being updated to the new iOS 4 firmware. I didn’t get to play a lot with the new phone last night but the speed of this thing is remarkable. I downloaded a ton of games from the App store that are $1 for 48 hours only (typically $5-10 each) and the speed of those games was remarkable! There is an interesting phenomenon that takes place when you pick up the phone. The reception bars seem to tank rather rapidly. This didn’t seem to cause any problems with my service, but it seems to be something common with the phone as several internet sites have reported it. I’ll post some video and photo samples soon so check back. My wife’s phone is supposedly sitting at the Leewood Apple store today so we’ll see if they actually reserved it or buckled under consumer demand and sold it. Best of luck to all of your new iPhone seekers. It truly is a remarkable phone and I can’t wait get it out in the real world and see what it does. -Barnezy-
